Devin
Devin

Devin is 20 years of age. He began the BladeRunners Program March 22, 2010, with Laichwiltach Family Life Society. Devin has a passion for soccer, family and culture. During the BladeRunner program, he coached young ones, and taught them the life skills he has learned through the class portion. A few years ago Devin attended the Canadian Military Raven Program. After he graduated from this program an immense aspiration of enlisting in the Canadian Military came to the surface.

He made a fateful choice one evening that could have prevented him from enlisting; this choice resulted in criminal charges. Upon a recommendation from the BladeRunner Coordinator to research Restorative Justice Forums, Devin pursued this option. In early July 2010, he fulfilled all of his restorative justice requirements through the life skills portion of the BladeRunner program thereby allowing Devin to now walk to his destiny, the Canadian Military.

“The program has given me the skills to look inside and somewhat understand how to deal with my issues. Also how to say things without hurting others.”

Jamie
Jamie

Jamie is 24 years of age living as a single mother of two children on the Homalco First Nations Reserve. One of Jamie’s biggest challenges is the lack of social supports for her and her family. Homalco First Nations is just outside of the city and not serviced by transit; therefore, it is challenging for her to get to where she needs to go.

Jamie left the BladeRunner program two-weeks early as she was accepted into Strategic Resource Management’s program called Natural Resource Training. She will receive a multitude of certificates including compass training, fire safety, first aid transportation endorsement training and much more valuable teachings and certifications. This program is four months long and includes a work experience component. Jamie is looking forward to finding work that will fulfill her employment needs so she can meet the growing needs of her young family.
