New Partnerships
Vic Van Isle (VVI) Construction Inc. and Nuu-chah-nulth BladeRunners
The VVI NTC partnership began in September of 2007. VVI initially hired three BladeRunners youth from the Port Alberni Nuu-chah-nulth BladeRunners program. All three youth are from Huu-ay-aht First Nation. Since affordable housing is a major challenge in Tofino, VVI rented a house within walking distance of the work site for out of town participants. The VVI project superintendent, Tony Wreggit met with the BladeRunners Carpentry Instructor, Steve Southin, to review the training offered and was even so supportive as to offer his own advice and services to tailor the next training intake to meet the employer needs. Upon completion of that training intake, VVI hired two additional youth! One of the new employees was hired with the intention of registering him as a plumbing apprentice with a sub-trade on the same site, Pace-West Mechanical Ltd. The name of the VVI Tofino work site is the Shore and it has a three- year construction phase. It is a 10 million dollar waterfront development that includes 27 condos and seven commercial properties.

AG Project Management Ltd. and Nuu-chah-nulth BladeRunners
AG Project Management Ltd. has hired 4 BladeRunners participants for their Ocean West Weyerhouser worksite in Ucluelet. They have trained the participants in very valuable skills including laying pipes for water sewage and storm drains; cutting and fusing pipes; digging ditches and how to work safely around heavy machinery. They have stressed the importance of good safety habits to the participants. The participants work side by side with a very supportive crew that teaches and mentors them. Owner Al Grozell actually allows and encourages the participants to sit in the heavy machinery and has encouraged the participants to get heavy equipment operator training. AG Project Management Ltd. is willing to hire more BladeRunners in the future over the five- year construction phase. Ocean West ocean front community will encompass a 228- acre development, which will include a mix of permanent residences, vacation homes and rentals, hotels and a few retail stores.

CSETS, Snuneymuxw First Nation and developer Cable Bay Lands Inc.
CSETS BladeRunners has formed an exciting new partnership with Snuneymuxw First Nation and developer Cable Bay Lands Inc. Participants from the CSETS BladeRunners program will be clearing lands, roadways and pathways for a new marina, golf course and hosing poject located near south of Nanaimo. The project is on-going. Participants Robin Good and Leonard (Shae) Point are thrilled with the BladeRunners program and have described recently how much the BladeRunners program has imensely helped improve the lives of their family.

CSETS BladeRunners, Chemainus First Nations, and Terasen Gas Enter Partnership
The Chemainus First Nations and the CSETS Bladerunners program will be teaming up to provide Bladerunner participants that would compliment CFN's partnership with Terasen Gas. Terasen Gas is committed to hiring Chemainus First Nation members for their huge 3 year project beginning in April 2008. This is a great 3-way partnership that is mutually beneficial for everyone, especially the Chemainus First Nations who are wanting to better their lives with these challenging positions with Terasen Gas.
